The company’s history begins when the founders of BenchK, Vadim and Irena Zemlianyi, moved permanently from Ukraine to Poland, the homeland of their grandparents. Raising their young daughter, they realized that a healthy lifestyle starts from an early age and lasts a lifetime. The first generation of products were produced in Ukraine, where multi-functional gymnastic wall bars were popular and could be found in almost every third home. The owners decided to introduce this product to the European market, and so came the idea of adapting the product to the European customer. With this idea, the founders put everything on one card and moved to Poland overnight. Through gained experience and the voice of customers from all over Europe, as well as participation in the largest trade fair of the sports industry ISPO 2018 and 2019 in Munich, the owner, Vadym Zemlianyi, was inspired to design a new generation of BenchK sports furniture.

From 2019, a new production plant in Rzeszów (POLAND) allowed professional gymnastic equipment to be combined with the aesthetics of sports furniture. Each product is carefully made of Polish raw materials in accordance with European safety standards. BenchK wall bars are distinguished by a minimalist design, perfect fit into any interior without disturbing its aesthetics and the ability to motivate people to perform physical activity everyday.

In 2022, BenchK LLC was founded. It is a company registered and operating in Florida U.S. It holds a distribution center in Largo, FL. BenchK now also covers the whole North American region.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vadym Zemlianyi.

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In March 2014, Russia annexed the Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine. A month later the war in the Donbas region began.

At that time, my family and I lived in Dnepr – which is 300 km far from Donetsk.

We didn’t feel secure enough that’s why we decided to leave Ukraine. We chose Poland, my wife Irena’s grandparents’ homeland. We were surprised that in Europe there wasn’t a product that existed in post-soviet countries. The gymnastic wall bar was and still is very popular in Ukraine and visible in every third house in Ukraine but in Poland, no one knew what it was. We decided to introduce gymnastic wall bars to the European market.

We went out on a limb and moved to Poland overnight with one suitcase in one hand and a small daughter holding the other hand. We left everything behind dear to our hearts: relatives, friends, a big, beautiful, and newly renovated apartment in the center of Dnieper city, and a managerial position in JCB (Global Manufacturer of Construction Equipment).

We had a long road ahead of us to adapt the gymnastic wall bars to European consumer demands. The first generation of BenchK products we produced in Ukraine. In 2018 and 2019, we participated in the biggest sports trade fair in the world which takes place in Munich, Germany. Taking into consideration what the client demands, in 2019 we created a second generation of wall bars which we named sports furniture. Thus, in 2019, we launched the manufacture in Rzeszow, Poland.

Currently, all BenchK products are produced from Polish raw materials in accordance with European safety standards for sports equipment. On 24th February 20202, Russia started a full-scale war against Ukraine. Our manufacture is based only 100km from the Ukrainian border. That’s why we started to think to diversify our business. Opening a branch office in the USA – on another continent – was the first thought.

In May 2022, we shipped the container with wall bars toward Miami Harbor without a final destination point. Meanwhile, we were looking for a warehouse online and signed up for the license rent remotely. A week later, we sent display stands by plane for Ihrsa International Trade Fair for the sports industry in Miami Beach Florida 2022 to show BenchK products to the US market. When people approached our stand at Ihrsa Trade Fair:” What is it?” was the most frequent question.

There is a lot of work ahead of us to expand the knowledge about BenchK products in the USA. However, we can boast about some results: BenchK wall bars products were added to the online catalog by one of the biggest players in the sports field, Dick’s sporting goods.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In comparison to Europe, the biggest struggle was the US banking system. Creating the account, banking, cheque payments, running the business, and metrical system.

When it comes to products, we had to adapt BenchK wall bars to US standards. For example, we created wall holders, exclusively for the USA, in the case of wooden studs and wall construction, improving the quality of cardboard packages.

We’ve been impressed with BenchK, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We adapted a classical Swedish ladder into modern times. Multifunctional BenchK wall bars combine furniture’s aesthetic and functionality. The modular system of BenchK allows the integration of wall bars in various areas of life. What is more, BenchK bars can be integrated into our daily routine wherever you stay.

BenchK is perfect for living areas, physiotherapy, rehabilitation centers, hotels, modern space offices, and public institutions such as schools and military centers. It becomes a piece of furniture that is completely trailblazing. All BenchK designs have been issued registered community design certificates by EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office). Benchk wall bars are made in Poland and comply with European safety standards PN-EN 12346:2001, PN-EN 913:2019-03 for gymnastic and sports equipment.

For the time being, we are the first company that created such products that can be called sports furniture. I am proud that we made it possible to create an aesthetic primary gym that can be affordable without the need to own a separate garage gym or special room for fitness.

What are your plans for the future?
We wish to continue the 5-star rating from Google reviews. Our task is to be a benchmark in the USA and Europe in multifunctional wall bars.

The primary aim of ours is to deliver a high-end product, at an affordable price which improves physical activity in everyday life. For the next 3 years, we will pursue the US market to be our main market where we produce products with the label “made in the USA”.
